The Stillwater Area HS Jazz Collective is a group of musicians dedicated to the creation and performance of our great American musical art form. The SJC is made up of several ensembles: the Stillwater Jazz Ensemble, the Art Blakey Jazz Xtet, the JJ Johnson Jazz Xtet and the Maynard Ferguson Jazz Xtet. The purpose of the Stillwater Jazz Collective is to create a space where all musicians in the Stillwater Bands can experience performing jazz and popular music in high level musical ensembles. It is a flexible group with varied instrumentation from which many ensembles are formed. This open approach seeks to provide a vibrant space for musicians to create, perform contemporary jazz while exploring their own personal musical interests.

Auditions for the Jazz Collective are ongoing and can be scheduled with the director at any time. In the Spring of each school year, formal auditions for the next years membership will be held to determine the core membership for the following school year.
